The Van Steenberger brewery started the production of Gulden Draak in 1986, named after the Golden Dragon that is located on the top of the bell tower of the Ghent city hall in Belgium. The first dragon was the figurehead of a Viking ship that ended up on top of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. After the Crusades, it appeared in the city of Bruges, whereas after the battle of Beverhoutsveld in 1382, it stands proudly in the city of Ghent. Every so often it is replaced by a new one. Since 2018 at night, you can see it spitting fire through its mouth. What better way to enjoy the show than drinking a Gulden Draak.
